Very nice, well balanced. Nice description except no mention of the wood. Looks like walnut, but not sure if you even have that available down under.

For some reason I feel the mermaid a little bit strange there, but beside of this it is as high quality as usually. What is the size of it?

the maori people never had a written language, history was passed down thru word of mouth, song, or thru the symboligy on wood carvings and Ta moko (tattoo),the symbology in this carving being,my mother and her family is of european decent,my father and his family is of Maori decent, the carving depicts a Taniwha(a waterborn maori mythical creature that acts as a gatekeeper or protector of a certain stretch of water)holding & protecting a mermaid next to his chest with a raised jade weapon in his other hand, basically, its the entwining of 2 cultures thru there respective water mythologies,in this case the lasting and strong marrage between my parents,my mother gave me the shell and drew a picture of this mermaid years ago, which i carved, the Taniwha you might notice on the guitar body i did and also see it pop up in other carvings ive done, its the taniwha from the lake that my fathers people are the guardians of lake Ellesmere in canterbury N.Z.
the carvings about 6 inches long,a self standing bedside clock and made as a christmas for my mother, cheers
